How does it work?

It works by delivering impulses of energy, targeted to the specific damaged tissues within the abnormal tendon or fascia.

This creates an inflammatory response by which the body responds by increasing metabolic activity around around the site of pain. This stimulates and accelerates the healing process.

It also provides some pain relief via our central nervous system.

How long does the treatment last?

2500 shocks are delivered per session, which takes approximately 5 minutes. Your whole session will last 30 mins, as although shockwave stimulates the healing process and provides some pain relief, it is important that it is used in conjunction with a good, structured rehabilitation programme.

How many treatments will I need?

Protocol states 3 treatments at weekly intervals are necessary.

Additional sessions may be authorised dependent on clinical need.

It can be uncomfortable during the session. This is normal and you should feel discomfort during the treatment.

There may also be discomfort in the day after as well. Please do not take anti-inflammatory medication as this will be counter productive. The pain will settle within 24hours, use paracetamol if you need and are able to take.

Can I return to my normal activities after?
You can go about your normal daily life, but even if it feels good after you need to take it easy and rest.
Treatment is part of a bigger recovery process. So no straight back to sport after!
